Jade Lyngdoh

Director

Jade is Director of the Centre, where he leverages his deep expertise in India’s legal and governance frameworks, together with an extensive cross-sector network, to define strategic priorities and advance its mission of sustainable, participatory change.

Jade has engaged with government bodies, intergovernmental organizations, the judiciary, non-profit and civil society sectors, and academic institutions to drive impact in environmental protection, human rights advocacy, public-institution reform, and the strengthening of democratic governance.


He holds a dual B.A., LL.B. degree specialising in Constitutional Law from the National Law University, Jodhpur. During his studies, he was named a Meta India Tech Scholar, an initiative founded by Meta in partnership with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.

On graduation, he received the P. A. Sangma Fellowship in Legal and Policy Research at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, returning to Shillong to work with stakeholders across Meghalaya’s governance landscape.

Early in his career, he served as research assistant to Karuna Nundy, a member of the Amal Clooney-led High-Level Panel of Legal Experts on Media Freedom, contributing to its landmark report on international standards and blasphemy laws.

A committed advocate for digital rights, he petitioned India’s courts to bolster privacy protections (Jade Jeremiah Lyngdoh v. Union of India & Ors) and has employed the Right to Information Act to investigate executive-ordered internet shutdowns and the unauthorised deployment of facial-recognition technology lacking legal safeguards.

As a published columnist, his analysis and commentary on pertinent public issues in India have been published in The Wire, The Telegraph, and the Hindustan Times.
